Albert J. Jongman

Albert J. Jongman was recruited into the Dutch Military Intelligence Service (MIVD) after 9/11 and worked as senior analyst in the counter-terrorism department, where he focused on trends in terrorism and threat assessments. He studied Western sociology at the University of Groningen and Stockholm University. He specialised in investigating armed conflicts and political violence. He started his scientific career at the University of Groningen and in 1987 moved to the Center for Research on Social Contradictions (COMT) at the University of Leiden. In 1988 with Alex P. Schmid he co-authored the standard work Political Terrorism: A new guide to Actors, Authors, Concepts, Data Bases, Theories and Literature. During the 1990s he produced the World Conflict and Human Rights Map and was the editor of Contemporary Genocides, causes, cases, consequences (1996), as well as a contributor to the Routledge Handbook of Terrorism Research (Routledge, 2011). Since his departure from the Ministry of Defence in 2012 he engaged in consulting work and writes a monthly threat analysis about CBRNE.
